Here’s to you, Marc - wherever you are

I just read the sad news about the passing of one of my favorite friends and personalities in tech, GTD, and just being an all around neat guy - Marc Orchant. I never met Marc in the flesh, but he touched my life in a lot of ways. He was funny, smart, kind, and supportive.

We talked a lot on email, and followed each others blogs regularly. He helped me get mirrored on OfficeZealot a long time ago. I took Marc's Microsoft Outlook online course. But most of all, I just liked Marc and loved his energy and perspective.

I miss you, Marc. My thoughts and prayers to Marc's family.

You can read a wonderful tribute to Marc on bub.blicio.us, which is where this picture came from (photographer: Brian Solis).

Learning from the site of a Trucking Accident

What the heck does the title of this post mean? Well, I'm referring to the TruckingAccident.org Blog where I found a great resource for the road warrior in a post called "The Mobile Productivity Toolbox: 100 Resources to Keep You Productive When on the Move."

Some of the new finds (for me, anyway) from this list include:

  • #4: Mobivox: Get cheap Skype calls even when you're away from your computer and WiFi with Mobivox's service.
  • #7: ProjectStat.us: If you're traveling, you may not be able to field lots of calls and emails about progress on projects. Keep everyone out of your hair by letting them find out with ProjectStat.us. [Note: ProjectStat.us is awesome - and I love their logo]
  • #61: oh don't forget: Get reminders sent to you via SMS with this service. You don't even need an account to do it.

And, as the name of the post implies, there are 97 others. Go check it out!

Oh - and if you are a blogger, you might find some gems in another one of their articles: "Travel Blogging: 100 Resources To Help You Post on The Road."

A new voice emerges...

This week, I met someone I've been corresponding with because he is a reader of this blog. We both happened to be at the same trade show in San Francisco, and got the chance to sit down and chat for a while. I really enjoyed the discussion and we talked about a wide variety of topics. One of the things we discussed is blogging. You see, he has been considering blogging for a quite a while, and I encouraged him to go for it. I'm happy to see that he's done that, and is off to a great start.

Check out Derek, now sharing his thoughts at "Business Based Parenting." Today's post is on Perseverance, Persistence and Determination - which I'm taking as a sign his voice will be around for a long time. Way to go, Derek!

The new MMOG: Massively multiplying online goodness

OK, I recently got added to Priscilla Palmer's expansive "Personal Development List," thanks to Ariane Benefit, who is also on the list. The list is kinda like a chain letter or something, where once you get added, you're supposed to re-post the list, add 5 more sites to the list, and do a trackback back to the original list.

I'm going to do it a little differently, just because the list is so long and I think Priscilla is doing a great job of maintaining the list.

So here are my 5 additions to the list (at this writing, they are not currently on the list, though they will be when it's updated):

  1. Lisa Haneberg of Management Craft
  2. Lori Grant and Debbie of Smart Lemming
  3. Stacy Brice of Virtualosophy
  4. Matt Cornell of Matt's Idea Blog
  5. Steve Grossman of Why I Failed

Start with these five treasures. Then, if you want to see the current version of the list in its entirety, please visit Priscilla's site. And if you're one of my 5 additions, feel free to add to the list, as well - my way or the "official" way. (If you don't, I don't think this is one of those "a bad thing will happen to you" sorts of things - don't sweat it, it's only karma ).

After the fold, you can see the list as it was when I posted this.
